In the last decade there has been a rise in popularity in people adopting preventative methods to improve their health by detoxifying their bodies. This has meant an increase in the number of manufacturers who have developed colon cleansing methods and preparations, many of which can be used at home. Some of these colon-cleansing kits can be quite taxing, so what is the least invasive most gentle way to cleanse the colon?
By far the least invasive and gentlest method to clean the colon and improve colon health is to introduce changes to diet and lifestyle.
There is normally a tendency for people who carry out colon cleansing kits to follow the instructions for the course of the colon cleanse, but once it is completed go right back to the diet that caused the initial build up in the first place.
Changing the diet to adopt one that progressively improves digestive and colon health, is a natural and long-term solution.
Adopting a colon cleansing diet will require some sacrifices, including the need to restrict or reduce certain foods, and increase the number of raw foods and foods that contain roughage.

Here are some tips to implement a colon cleansing diet.
- Make sure that you drink sufficient amounts of water and reduce the volume of drinks that act as diuretics, like coffee, tea, soda and alcohol.
- Increase substantially the levels of soluble and insoluble fiber in the diet. Fiber helps increase colon mobility and also bulks and softens the stool, helping eliminate waste more easily. It can also over time help “scrub” the insides of the colon to reduce build up.
- Increase the volume of digestive enzymes consumed. These will allow the body to absorb more nutrients from the foods that are eaten and help in the digestive process. Digestive enzymes are present in most fruits and vegetables when they are raw. If you re cooking them either lightly steam or stew them to maintain as much of the digestive enzymes as possible.
- Reduce the levels of foods that have no fiber content, or at the very least eat the meal with items that are rich in fiber - Meat does not contain any fiber, and that includes all meat extracts.
- Reduce the amount of foods consumed that have been processed, are high in fat or contain preservatives, additives or flavourings. Foods that have been processed are most often nutritionally weak.
- Try and eat foods that are in season and have not been sitting around in a warehouse for days before reaching their destination. This will mean that more if the nutritional value of the food will be maintained.
- Exercise, even gentle exercise, on a regular basis can stimulate the bowel, aiding in waste elimination.
There are a number of herbal preparations, herbs and supplements that can help in the process of cleaning the colon, but for real long-term benefit a change of diet is required.
Therefore least invasive most gentle way to cleanse the colon is to adopt a “colon” friendly diet, that can be maintained into the future.
