Toenail fungus is something that affects many people. In fact, it is estimated that up to 50% of the population will suffer from at least one case of nail fungus during their lifetime, so if you are suffering from a case of toenail fungus you are surely not alone. Although the disease can be quite embarrassing and cause some pretty unsightly effects on your toes, it isn t something that you need to worry too much about.

While it is not the easiest thing to treat, there are some home cures for toenail fungus that many people have found to be quite helpful. Of course many people go to the doctor in order to see what they can do about it, and they will trim the nail and probably prescribe an antifungal medication, this can have some side effects that you might be concerned about. That is why I always look for home treatments before I go for a medical treatment in most cases.

One of the best ways to get rid of toenail fungus is to not get it in the first place, so after you are able to get rid of the toenail fungus that you have now, take the following precautions in order to not get the disease again. Make sure that you wear socks that absorb sweat and shoes that breathe easily since fungus loves a dark, damp environment.

You should also avoid sharing any towels, or socks for that matter with anyone and make sure that you are wearing sandals or other protective foot covering when you are in a public area, such as a pool or spa. Some of the home cures for toenail fungus that people have found to be effective are the use of tea tree and lavender oil in a half and half mixture put on and around the toenail. Other people have found that oregano has some great antifungal properties.
